O Queen anunciou uma edição recém-mixada, masterizada e expandida de seu primeiro álbum autointitulado de 1973.
Com lançamento marcado para o dia 25 de outubro, a versão reinventada do disco chega mais de meio século após seu lançamento inicial. Ele foi remixado e restaurado por Justin Shirley-Smith, Joshua J Macrae e Kris Fredriksson para se encaixar no som que os membros sempre quiseram que ele tivesse.
Formado em 1970 com o vocalista Freddie Mercury, o guitarrista Brian May e o baterista Roger Taylor, o baixista John Deacon se juntou à formação do Queen no ano seguinte, e eles começaram a trabalhar no disco de estreia.
“Os três primeiros anos foram realmente de fé e fumaça. Estávamos sem dinheiro, mas tínhamos muita fé em nós mesmos e muita energia”, disse Taylor, relembrando o tempo em que trabalharam no lançamento inicial.
“Chegávamos [no estúdio] às três da manhã e então continuávamos, por todas as horas que podíamos. Era apenas uma rotina. Eu não diria que foi destruidor de almas porque estávamos bem confiantes. Tínhamos uma espécie de arrogância inata e gentil, sabe, achávamos que éramos bons e bem diferentes”, ele completou.
Além de entregar uma versão remixada e remasterizada da lista de faixas original, a nova edição também vem com uma abundância de material novo. Isso inclui áudio do Queen no estúdio, faixas demo, faixas raras ao vivo e gravações inéditas da primeira apresentação ao vivo da banda em agosto de 1970.
O trabalho vem com 6CDs e 1LP, e contém 63 faixas com 43 mixagens totalmente novas. A música Mad The Swine – ausente do lançamento de 1973 – também foi reintegrada ao seu lugar original na ordem de execução. Ela estava ausente do disco original após uma diferença de opinião entre a banda e um de seus produtores. Um livro de 108 páginas contendo letras manuscritas e memorabilia também acompanha o lançamento.
